finally meeting Aunty Lay Hwa! (26 Sept)

Today at work the scmp.com had technically difficulties since yesterday so things were slow and it was the first time in history that the website wasnt updated - which kinda made my supervisor a little jittery and not so happy.

Well, I tried to entertain myself in the midst of subbing stories and what not before they wanted to me try writing a timeline on the financial mortgage crisis (Lehman Brothers, Meryll Lynch, JPMorgan, etc. like hooooooow am i suppose to suddenly learn all the things my brother's amazing brain usually stores!).

Bottomline: Today was pretty sluggish.

BUT i was super excited to meet this phantom lady, a close family friend: Aunty Lay Hwa. She's like some lovely woman with a huge generous heart who has even checked out my hostel on her on accord BEFORE i even came by to HK.

The boys went BAKING, as a company bonding session thing. Apparently, Ruiming got a 9.5/10 for his cake and Peter got 9/10 - even our groundsman said it was really odd for males to go learn baking.

Hopefully it's as edible as they look harmless :)

So anyway, I went to meet Aunty Lay Hwa for dinner :) I've been corresponding with her over email for months now but never have seen her. I have to admit, I really had a very vague inkling how she looked like since I havent met her in such a long time!

It was such a great time spent with her, that I think I was overtly talkative (Ok everyone knows I am, but thinking back, it was probably embarrassing). Talking about almost everything: parents, school, friends, siblings, etc. It's scary.

Dinner was great. It was at one of her favourite restaurants, Chung Cuisine at Times Square in Causeway Bay. Managed to get some of the interior, but forgot to take the menu, which was really unique - themed as "Grandpa's smile", "Daughter's favourite", etc.

The pictures really dont do much justice cos it's just framing one portion of the whole decor.

See, she treated me awfully well mom and dad. Forgot to take a picture of the superbly tasty fried rice that she loves and got me liking too! And I'm eating vegetables ok mom and dad :)

Roasted chicken with apple and guava slices, plus sweet guava sauceLeafy vegetables with mini-looking mushrooms in chicken broth

Aunty Lay Hwa's trio dessert plate!

The usual HK dessert of mango chunks with pamelo bits in mango-ish juice

While we were early for dinner reservation, she wanted to buy bread from this place called Little Mermaid Bakery I think. She loves the bread and pastry there that she even buys to freeze her scones - since there are only 2 outlets in HK island. She was amazingly sweet and generous to buy me and the boys (who werent even there), breakfast :)

Butter-baked scones with walnut bits

Sugar and butter bread piece

Sugar and raisin bun - lotsa raisins!

(Oh yes, I have also realised that I keep eating raisin bread while I'm here. It's one of the fastest, easiest, least messy thing to eat, at any time)

Some packets of other tasty cakes, as Aunty Lay Hwa dispels her generosity to others :)

Oh and biscuits from her london trip last week for work! Oh goody :)

This week seemed to past awfully fast and the weekend's here! Saturday mornings are our exercise days - so i go running and the boys go meet nearby people to play soccer at a soccer court. We also do laundry too - this time, trying to find another shop since Peter abhors the previous store with a androgynous-looking (not the 'L' word sort) storeman who 'destroyed' his $90 Zara shirt.

Ok I'm off to bathe now and catch some sleep - nights! :)
