buffet with a song (30 Sept)

This post comes in a little late because by the time we got back yesterday it was pretty late already. Well, it's the National Day (China) today - so it's a public holiday :) It feels almost like jie, when she feels like taking leave: you work for 2 days, take a break, work for another 2 days, then it's the weekend again! :)

Anyway, I slept in today for the first time - ok it's cos i was also up late the night before. Anyway, Peter had left to go meet his dad's Godson who's passing him stuff; Ruiming was suppose (/wanted) to go to work to finish up some work, but i found him next door. So to keep him company, I'm in their room typing this out.

Yesterday was quite a rush (for me) since after work, we had to meet the lady who graciously has let us be refugees at HKIT. She's the president of HKIT: Mdm Chee. We were to meet outside office at 6.15 - which is almost an impossible time for me since I never end early. Blame the stories that come, in as press releases or what not, only in the afternoon.

Anyway, the boys left first in case we were late and I came by 5 mins later at Tsim Sha Tsui where we were to meet her. She picked us up at a nearby hotel before driving us to Metro Broadcasting. Yes, we were scheduled to do a recording of an interview (which we only knew the day before, with scanty details).

President Mdm Chee on the extreme left

Mdm Chee is also in-charge of an educational programme at the station and so every week she interviews people from the industry.

In this case, it's us, Singaporean students. She was sharp to say that it's good that we did this recording, which can be used as some appendix for our internship reports :)

That's the producer for programme, in orange.

She didnt use a script, neither did she tells us what questions she was going to ask; though mainly they were questions on our school and why we chose mass communications. She asked us in English but translated it over the air in Cantonese. Couldn't take pictures during recording of cos, cos the snapping sounds might be picked up by the mic in the studio.

the studio control panel, almost like the one in school, but looks more complicating

I had to be the one to start first and really had to pretty much think on the spot.

The president and me!

I even got asked a question related to the government! Well, it is scheduled to be on air maybe in a few weeks, once I get the .mp3 version i'd post it up :)

As Peter says for this picture, Ruiming is taller than that

After that, she brought us to a place that had a buffet that had quite a wide range - salads, hams, steamboat, usual cooked food, crepes, sushi, sashimi, dessert, chocolate fondue, ice cream (which we didnt eat in case of the milk scandal thingy that Peter was paranoid about) etc. Madness. But thing is, we only had about 30 mins left to the end of the buffet (2130).

Another thing was that, the buffet was part of a karaoke place. Soooooooo we had to eat and then sing too. Karaoke is nevvver really a common thing I do in Singapore, but it was pretty fun - with all of us trying to keep up with the songs haha and also we chose older tunes so that Mdm Chee and her friend could sing along. Like If I Fell, Hound Dog, O Holy Night, Scarborough Fair, Beautiful Sunday, etc.

That's president's friend on the right

Haha Ruiming was mostly yelling, Peter occasionally did cos he says he cant sing, but Mdm Chee could reach really high notes! And her friend was pretty good too, I noticed he was singing the harmonising parts most of the time instead of the melody.

By the time it ended it was already past 11pm; that even the groundsman called Ruiming to check if we were safe. Well, we went back with quite sore throats but with a smile and laughter to remember, especially how silly we would've been :)

Ok I should be going off in awhile to take the ferry to the other side of the island with the boys to go see fireworks today. Will try to update regularly and put in the backdated pictures :)

Hari Raya
to the muslim readers and to the other free loaders (like the three of us), who arent muslim, but are given the holiday! :)
