I forgot to say that last night as we were going up the Mid-levels escalator back to our hostel, I got a little amused and startled of very very familiar sounds. And got really excited and it spread quickly over to Ruiming too.
Risk sounding like a suah ku here, but I actually heard the speech pattern of three people behind us and they were distinctively Singaporean!
It was hilarious that I kept laughing and giggling as Ruiming and I tried hard to listen to them speak. Not about what they said, but how they said it!
"But you know ah.."
"Yaaah! Then she still got her housewarming party after that"
The intonation and speech pattern was so uncanningly unique that it got Ruiming singing "Singapura" for awhile! I was almost inclined to just turn around and ask the three well-dressed corporate executive-looking Chinese if they were from Singapore, just to get clarification.
It was then did we also realise how different we must sound to foreigners and tourists who pop by into Singapore.
Here, it kinda felt quite comforting to know that some Singaporeans are here (other than experienced ones like Aunty Lay Hwa) and have not lost that bit of ours. Funny how they are people whom we've never met and will never meet even after being back in Singapore, but yet got us into laughter that evening.
Haha thinking of how ridiculous we must've looked, while trying to strain our ears to hear their speaking pattern, is just funny!
Ok i should be going back to work. Since the rejected bailout plan, the HK chief executive has spoken so i'm suppose to write something. Pictures wil be sneakingly uploaded in between work, if i can :)
Edit: It's quite funny to read wire stories that talk about our government and the country so frankly. Using words like "pro-government media" and "tiny political opposition", it's really a different read from the usual. From this on JBJ's death.
